Honor and Use the Gits 1-24-10

1 Corinthians 12:24-26
Honor and Use the Gifts

Do you have unopened gifts?  At Christmas I often wait until the last
to open my gifts.  It drives my family crazy.  They want to see what
I got and find out if I like my gifts and can use them.

I wonder what God thinks of us.  He has given us very precious
spiritual gifts and often we do not open them and when we do, we
often use them selfishly or ineffectively.  Many people have never
learned about their gifts or the purpose or value of them to the
whole community.  Churches often ignore or devalue people’s gifts and
do not employ them to good use.

Saint Paul instructs us to value even the less presentable members of
the church, because to God they are so valuable that His Son gave His
life to save them.  1 Corinthians 12:24-26 says, “God has so composed
the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, that there
may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the
same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer
together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.”

It takes a group of Christians to really open up and use spiritual
gifts.  Gifts are to be used for the common good in coordination with
others.  Each member has great value and needs the care and support
of others to use his/her gifts effectively to the glory of God.  Even
the member who raises a stink about some bad stuff going through the
system has great value.  Of course, just like with the human body,
you only need one of those…

Think about it.  Do you have unopened gifts?  Don’t drive people
crazy.  Open them up.  Use them.  Help other people out.  Bless
everyone around you to the glory of God.  Amen.
